Dr. Keesag Baron

Keesag A. Baron, MD, has been practicing cardiology in Springfield for 22 years and is one of a select few cardiologists in the nation who is fellowship-trained in both Interventional Cardiology (angioplasty) and Cardiac Electrophysiology (heart rhythm disorders). In addition, Dr. Baron completed a fellowship in Pathology.  A summa cum laude graduate of the University of California, San Diego, Dr. Baron continued his medical/cardiology training at UCLA Medical School, UC Irvine, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills and completed his Interventional Cardiology fellowship at St. Vincent's Heart Institute in Portland, Oregon under Dr. Albert Starr, the first surgeon to implant an artificial heart valve.  He is a member of the prestigious Phi Beta Kappa honor society. In recognition of his accomplishments, Dr. Baron is a recipient of the prestigious Missourian Award.

At times working with Nobel laureates, Dr. Baron has a background in biomedical research at the Salk Institute in San Diego, Caltech in Pasadena, Stanford and UCLA Brain Research Institute in areas that include cholesterol biosynthesis and diagnostic and interventional cardiology.  At Caltech, Dr. Baron helped develop the method of liposome encapsulation of biologically active chemotherapeutic agents for intracellular delivery, technology that is currently in use with the COVID-19 vaccine. He is known for the biomedical corporations he founded in the Silicon Valley that revolutionized the treatment of cardiac patients.  The first corporation involved the development and production of patented noninvasive real-time 3-dimensional electrical mapping of the heart for use in operations to correct rhythm disorders.  The second involved the production, design, and manufacturing of patented, FDA-approved, "ablation" catheters in these same heart rhythm procedures.  Another involved the development, manufacturing and international marketing of a patented, FDA-approved, minimally-invasive robotically-assisted surgical microwave catheter system for the cure of atrial fibrillation in a 90-minute procedure without the use of x-rays.  He is currently on the board of an innovative startup company that greatly enhances numerous medical diagnostic capabilities and, in addition, provides sensors for border security which has drawn the attention of the Department of Homeland Security as well as numerous international governments.  His most recent corporation involves microwave probes to ablate solid tumors.  Dr. Baron has also been actively involved in defibrillator research and was involved in the first defibrillator implant in Nevada and among the first in California.

Having achieved board certifications in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Interventional Cardiology and Cardiac Electrophysiology with the further credential of testamur of the Heart Rhythm Society, Dr. Baron and Baron Cardiology Group, provide all aspects of heart care from preventative to interventional and from coronary to rhythm disorders while advancing the understanding of heart disease with a commitment to quality patient care. In particular, Dr. Baron expertly performs coronary angioplasty and internal cardioverter defibrillator surgical implants, including a heart failure treatment device known as cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator.  This state-of-the-art device helps patients with severe heart failure live a longer, more productive and symptom-free life.  He also performs the latest electrophysiologic studies to evaluate and treat patients' heart rhythm disturbances.  He performs percutaneous ablations to cure many of these rhythm disturbances and was among the first in the United States to perform this procedure.

Dr. Baron is proud of his contributions, alongside his Baron Cardiology team with a commitment to provide quality health care which has resulted in substantial contributions of support and funding to those in need in the Missouri communities and continued focus on reduction of heart disease.

Dr. Baron's most rewarding time and proudest moment is spending time with his wife Rita, and his 2 daughters Zomor and Zabelle.
