A cardiology consultation is an office appointment scheduled to evaluate current symptoms that could indicate a heart-related problem, or to assess risk factors for heart disease, including high blood pressure or a family history of heart disease or heart attack. Common symptoms that can result in the need for a cardiology consult include, but are not limited to:

  • Chest pain

  • Fainting spells

  • Palpitations

  • Shortness of breath

  • Dizziness

Consultations may also be used to assess existing heart disease or to obtain second opinions. Often, consultations are ordered by a general practitioner or family doctor, but patients may also request consultations to discuss symptoms or concerns.
